Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew every dance partner she met. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as six feet and one inch tall. After I outgrew the male partners, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school production. After a few auditions, she ended up as the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, her roles on television and the big screen have been numerous. The character of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was only seen on a few instances in the initial season of the show The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
